About Us
Our Story
Welcome to Mountain View Canvas! We are glad you are here and hope to serve you in any way possible. We want to take a moment and tell you a little bit about us and our business adventure. My husband , Tyler and I live and work out of our home in Fairfield, Montana. We own a small cattle herd of 70 mother cows, help my parents with the farm, and train a handful of horses throughout the year. We purchased the business in the fall of 2015 as just a side business for me, Shelby. I worked under the watchful eye of the previous owner for a couple months and learned a lot of the skills I would need to carry on the business . We moved the business to its current location at the shops in our yard in May of 2016. I continued on sewing as many projects as I could. A lot of seam rippers were used and extra hours spent on projects that weren’t billed out as I sewed my way through the learning curves of becoming a seamstress that only experience can teach.
Our son surprised us by arriving 1 month earlier than expected in August of 2016. I was beginning to feel more comfortable with my developing skills behind the sewing machine but a lot of my time was focused on our son that year, with being a first time mom and him having some health concerns. In August of 2017 we welcomed our baby girl into our family!
2018 was a year of big changes for the business. The best kind of advertising, good old fashioned word of mouth had done its job better than we expected and I had more work than I could keep up with. My husband was still working full time and we spent many nights and weekends in the shop getting projects done. We were nervous and excited for the change 2021 brought when we made the decision for my husband to quit his full time job and put all our efforts into our cattle and Mountain View Canvas. We are excited to see where God takes our family in this business. When I say our family, I mean our family. Our kids, now 4 and 5, are with us every step of the way. We love being able to have our kids with us learning how money is earned and the dignity found in a job well done!
Our Mission
“ Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” Colossians 3:23. I can't explain our mission statement as a business any better than this verse. I read a book several years ago that was showcasing several horse barns and stable managers over in England, and a particular quote from one of the managers stuck out to me. He said the problem with most workers today is they are not proud of their work. When we purchased the business, and to this very day, that has been a code we work by: to be proud of our work, and not in the sense of a price tag, but in the sense that we are proud to put our name on it and take claim to the fact we built it. That to me is the best quality control there is!
